Monobloc plastic chair and armchair
Polypropylene
Produced by Colos, Italy
2016
The brief was simple and precise: a single-piece stackable polypropylene chair that could be turned into an armchair by adding a module to the mould.
To design Piazza, I drew inspiration from the wooden bistro chairs of the 1930s, in particular Thonet's model 811, designed by Josef Hoffmann. This familiar silhouette, which we mentally associate with wood, lifts the chair away from its plastic character and allows it to fit into very different contexts without feeling out of place.
